The whole morning I sketched to find the right expression and composition for my new Methamorphosis about Daphne. I've got a good idea but it will be a lot of work with all the laurel leaves! In the afternoon I went to my framemaker to get a new foot for my new alter ego and as usual we had a long talk together about life and the right attitude towards it...and now i'm going to prepare my drawing bag for tomorrow to go out sketching because they promised good weather....????

Today I started my summer week on the academy in Amsterdam. The group is full with enthousiastic pupils of whome I know a couple already. My model dressed herself beautiful in a vintage rock a roll dress which she had borrowed from a shop. the subjectmatter for this week is 'portrait with costume'. We will continue for the next week working on one painting. Yesterday I continued on the profile portrait of z. I coloured her dress and finished her arm. The colour green of the dress suits her hair beautifully and gives the 'cut-out' a lifely expression. my last alter ego is almost finished only for some details.

Today i worked hard on my face of the 'winter Alter ego'. it's important that i can finish it in one go when de oilpaint is still wet. I can blend in the colours very smoothly and subtle. Again it was a bit hot today with this woolen cap on my head. It turned out very well in the end. But of course it needs another layer still.In the afternoon a collegea visited me to make some photographs of my alter ego's and my real self . She wanted it for a lecture she is going to give about artists selfportraits. We had a nice talk about Art.

Hi...here I am again! It's being a long time, but many things happened in my life. Yes, I'm still alive and kicking with my Art. At the moment i'm working on many things. first I am painting a new Alter ego...called 'Winter Alter ego', It's a bit warm to paint myself with woolen cap en wintercoat. But Art ask it from me so what can I do? Also I am making colourdrawings of Amsterdam. i am searching for interesting places where I can sit reasonably peaceful! At the same time for when the weather is bad, I making (cut-out) still lifes for some exhibition in Pulchri. Oh yes...before I forget...I'm painting a new profile portrait of Z. So ..it keeps me of the street and I can devote myself to Lord Art! Bye bye...

Today I continued and finished the portrait of the young girl. The finishing touch is an important moment to get all the parts really together. Now I have to frame it and then the people will come in january to fetch it.

Painted the backgrounds of both the young girl and Krshnagirl. The last one became much deeper and is almost finished. The young girl is coming to the finishing touch.

Today I finished the portrait of the girl completely in the first layer. I did her long hair which is always hard work because you have to show the flow of the hair, it's colour difference and at the same time keep it loose! It must also match the colour of the face in tone and colour. Last week I also painted at the portrait of the 'Krsna girl'. The decoration of her sari and her jewelry and the little flower in her hair. Because I wanted to change the colour of her shirt, I glazed it with another colour to get a deep purple which matches nicely with the decoration in her sari. I painted between her eyes the light ockerish leafpattern which belong to the Krsna movement...it looks very special! I still have to put another layer on the background and then I'm ready. It is becoming one of my most special portraits!

First i painted the line decoration of the shirt of the portrait of the young girl. These kind of line-decoration is always difficult, because you have to get the width of these lines right. Otherwise it looks chaotic. Then I continued on the 'sari' of the Krishna-girl. It has beautiful purple flowers and little dots! With these decorations as with jewelry, a portrait gets more elaborated, more a finished look. I also touched the shade to make it deeper. Cleaned the brushes!

Yesterday I finished my blue-eyed-pineapple called 'modroocko'. These 'metamorphosis paintings' are mend to be humouristic at one hand and at the same time they are telling something of my 'pan-theistic' believe in general. Apart from the beautiful stories of Ovidius I am really inspired by the believe that all in nature are actually one. It's a continues cycle of being and changing. Also the excitement to paint different beings in such a way that it becomes undevided triggers me every time to look for new metamorphosis.

At nine today I continued on my next portraitcommission of the girl I painted 12 years ago...time flies! I painted her face last sunday and now i did the background and her shirt in bright blue with a subtle light-yellowish background. When finished i continued with the Krishnagirl. Yesterday I worked on her hands and arms and her hair which is dark reddish-brown en curled around her head. She has very special eyes who almost look through you. It is a yellow iris with a blue-grey band around and a little explosion of burnt-sienna. Because i made a dark background it is important to blend the tone-colour of her face towards it. It's coming on!

This afternoon started a new portrait in commission. The portrait is of a shy 16 year old girl whom I also painted when she was about 4 years old. It's very special to do again a portrait of the same person after 12 years! Today I started with the underpainting...after i drew her directly on the canvas. Later i went to the big demonstration against the shortening of the budget of Culture...fortunately ther were a lot of people!

What about the eyes in a pineapple? Well that's what I made today. I always wanted to do something with a pineapple and now i found it! Not easy such a pineapple you know..I mean the regular irregularity of the skin is quite difficult. Also the leafs are not easy to make. Next week I shall cut it out of wood and start painting it.
This morning I went on sculpting my ' Io' and it is coming in it's final phase now...also I made a clay print of my medalrelief and it came out nicely!

Could not paint today, because I gave a lecture in Voorschoten to a group of pupils of my brother about 'trompe l'oeil' or 'the deceiving of the eye'. It's a very interesting subject because it was and still is an important genre within Art. It actually started with the Etruscans as illusions of things for the afterlife and it still fascinated people all those centuries till now. Although photography partly took it over in the beginning of the 20th century, it still has this magic influence on people today!

Yesterday I continued with the portrait of the girl. i gave specially attention to the hair and went on with her eyes to give her a softer expression. today in between lessons i Painted the background to give it more depth.
Last week I went on at the grinning banana and this week I will finish it .

All good art is geometrically shaped art! Look at the works of Piero della Francesca...how well placed are his shapes and how well thought over are his composition...let alone his well composed colours! Although his art is figurative it is also trancendental! Nothing in his art is there for nothing...all have a pictorial as well as a spiritual meaning. His works are like a still life...so in harmony, so quiet!

So much to do...I could not find time to put something on my blog! But I'm working on two portraits. One is a small child and is a commission the other I make for myself and she is a young woman. She is hare Krishna and I paint her with her sari and the spot between her eyes. At the same time I am preparing myself for my next exhibition in Baarn about my traveldrawings. I make them every time I go for traveling. I prefer to walk in a special area and look around till I find a nice spot to work. The experience of traveling and experiencing the landscape in a special way is a constant joy! The moment I sit down and start..I feel part of the land..the experience of sight, wind, sound and movement makes you feel whole with life.

Kanun...what's that? I just engage a Turkish Kanun player for my exhibition in galerie Peteraltena in Baarn. Together with three other 'travel' sketchers I will partly show my drawings i made in Cappadocia Turkey. But I also worked today in my studio at a new 'transformation' piece called 'the grinning banana'. I'm invited by my Gallery to show a few of these paintings during the Realist Art Fair in january. These works are quite new in my oeuvre and are saying something about the idea I have about the interconnection of all things. So a pepper can change into a finger or a teacup into an human ear. It's playing with illusion and metamorphises. They all are 'cut-outs' to highten the illusion. I try to bring the 'change' in a subtle way so the reaction of the people is uncertain about what they actually see. My sculpted 'Io' is getting into her final state...today I chiseld on in the Limestone.

I did framing, printing, painting and had a walk in the park. I'm almost ready with the framing of my 'traveldrawings' still a few big ones. 31 oktober will be the opening. The second colour of my woodcut went much better this time because I solved the problem of the dustparticles. I made some retouches on the new portrait. And tonight i taught at the academy.

10.30 in my studio and framed the whole day! the most difficult part of this is to find the right colour passe-partout. With the colourpencil drawings it's very important to get the right tone and colour as passe-partout, otherwise it doesn't come out properly. White is not always the best solution, specially when you use tinted paper.
I also painted a bit on the underpainting of the new portrait of the girl. I think I am on the right track. She came sunday for three hours and I almost finished the underpainting in one session!
this afternoon I brought the already framed doubleportrait to the photographer.
